From the Bookshelf

The books we keep going back to, and the ones we keep lending out.

Overhead flatlay on a weathered wooden table: an open cookbook with photographs of a roasted chicken and tomato dish and a green salad at the center, a stack of three cloth-bound books in navy, cream and rust, a worn paperback with a cracked spine, a children's picture book with an illustrated tree, tortoiseshell reading glasses, a pencil, blank index cards, a mug of black coffee, a ripe peach, and a cream linen towel with a peach stripe.

Cookbooks with sauce on the pages, training books with cracked spines, the nutrition science we trust, and the picture books Riley asks for twice a night. Each note covers one book, or a small stack on one theme: what it's good for, who it's for, and where we disagree with it. We only write about books we've read all the way through and still own.

The book that set our table

The first entry in From the Bookshelf: the nutrition book we keep rereading, the four habits it's built on, where it shows up in our cookbook, and where we think it goes too far.
